What The Dickens?
You really, REALLY have to be a Charles Dickens fan to be into this one. Dickens World theme park reportedly has the ability to thrust you back into the experiences of Victorian London - including the smells! LOL Like I said, you really have to like Dickens to willingly experience the smells of Victorian London.
You get the sights and sounds too. Well some of them, anyway. I'd be willing to bet the sounds of merchants screaming obscenities at street urchins and of people shouting domestic disagreements have been omitted.
Some of the attractions are the Haunted House of Ebeneezer Scrooge, a Victorian School Room, a 4D high-definition show, Fagin's Den, and an animatronics show. State-of-the-art, you know. Although there are several parts of the park that will no doubt appeal to the kids, this is at its heart an adult park, with shopping malls, themed restaurants and bars and a multiplex cinema. There will also be a series of burlesque evening dinner shows for a little Victorian naughtiness. They were easy to titillate in those days. This will take place in the Free and Easy Victorian Music Hall.
Immerse yourself in the period by following cobbled streets and gazing at the Victorian-style architectural reproductions. During the Christmas season, the park will become a winter wonderland, although there are other seasonal themes as well. You will see characters come to life before your very eyes.
The theme park is based not only on details from the author's many works, but on the world in which he lived. It is located in Chatham, Kent (England) and opened April 2007. It's brand spanking new.
Don't just read Dickens, experience Dickens. Step right into the pages of his stories and take a look around.
